Mission Statement, or lack thereof
I'm starting a blog. If for no other reason than a friend of mine and I agreed to both do it this summer, and since hers is already up and running, I figure I'd better get my act together as well.
It's incredibly easy to start a blog, as it turns out. In fact, I intended to do so when I went abroad to Madrid two years ago, and I even got as far as a title and layout scheme, but I found that I didn't really have time to write the kind of quality posts I wanted to, so that idea was quickly jettisoned. So why do it now?
For one thing, I've got a lot more time on my hands now. What's more, now that college is over and I am still without any concrete plan for the forseeable future, my life is bound to be in considerable flux for a while, and so this blog will serve as a good way to keep tabs on my activities. I'm actually quite nervous about what's coming down the line, but I've found through many an art history course in college that the best way to understanding something is writing about it. This method has worked for me on everything from Botticelli to Banksy, so I might as well give it a whirl with a real-life application as well.
Why post a "mission statement" or introduction to the blog, then? I suppose to give myself some direction, a clear starting point, a launch pad from which I can hopefully eke out some constructive writing about what's going on in my day-to-day. I cannot aspire to literary brilliance or uplifting insight, but I hope that through frequent writing I will improve both the quality of the writing and the thought behind it.
So bear with me, and feel free to comment at will. Stay tuned for more meaty updates to come.
